Thalys Pontes

2022 Brown Belt light featherweight world champion Thalys Pontes is originally from Ipiranga, Riberão Preto-SP, Brazil. In 2017, Pontes decided to chase his dreams and made a bold move to solely travel to the United States of America to accomplish his goals. After an amazing campaign and victory at the 2022 IBJJF Worlds, Pontes was promoted on the podium to black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by legendary coach Cicero Costha. Pontes is a very driven and dedicated athlete who, considering the little he had, came to America and has accomplished many incredible things. Some of these things included holding the number one spot in his division for four consecutive years and opening his very own state of the art Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. At such a young age, he has already won innumerous titles and traveled to 21 different countries learning, sharing, teaching, coaching, and competing in the science of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Now, expect him as a newly promoted black belt to shake things up a bit in the black belt light featherweight division.
