Jonathan “JT” Torres
Jonathan Torres, popularly known as “JT,” started his martial arts journey in the discipline of Karate. A view of Torres’ future successes could be seen earlier on in his youth. He earned a black belt in Karate even before he finished grade school. Like most young men, he played team sports in school. His sport of choice was basketball. After having been cut from the team, Torres set his eyes back on the martial arts but this time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Torres fell in love with the science of Jiu-Jitsu. With consistency and dedication, he was promoted to blue belt in only 6 months when at the time it took 12-18 months on average to reach said rank. In his quest to learn as much as could about the art, Torres sought instruction and guidance from Professor Louis Vintaloro who is known for being a very methodical instructor. With the combination of grit, the desire to excel, and elite instruction, Torres received his purple and brown belts in less than 3 years. After having won many local tournaments and the IBJJF Pans twice, Torres started looking for a more professional team to help him achieve his dream of becoming a world champion. Torres then joined Team Lloyd Irvin and within an amazing 4 years was promoted to black belt by Irvin in 2009. Torres is currently training with and representing Team ATOS Jiu-Jitsu who is headed by Andre Galvao. Under Galvao’s tutelage, Torres has amassed to himself two ADCC titles in the 77 -kilogram division and has solidified his place in the grappling world as one the greatest competitors of our time.

One of my favorite BJJ competitors not just for what he has accomplished on the mats, but also for being a great example in today’s world of having to be a character to be popular. He just does his talking on the mats. Outstanding competitor and instructor.
